Product information "Microgrid XS – Compact Decentralized Energy System up to 5 kVA"
The Microgrid XS is a modular decentralized energy infrastructure system for the generation, storage and conversion of electrical energy in buildings and distributed sites. It forms a technically coordinated unit consisting of photovoltaic generation, battery storage and power conversion.
The system is designed for a maximum connection capacity of up to 5 kVA and optimized for stable low-load operation. It is further designed for repeatable deployment across multiple sites and integration into larger distributed energy portfolios.
Depending on project-specific design, the microgrid system can be configured as an off-grid system (autonomous supply) or as a grid-connected energy system with optional feed-in capability.
Pre-configured System Architecture
The system is based on a pre-configured power conversion unit (PCU), allowing for reduced on-site installation time, improved system reliability and consistent system performance.
Core power electronics, protection components and control systems are pre-assembled, tested and configured prior to delivery, reducing on-site wiring and commissioning effort. Modular battery integration enables flexible storage configurations depending on project requirements. The system is not limited to energy generation, but provides an integrated solution for energy conversion, storage and controlled power supply.
- Photovoltaic-based energy generation
- Battery storage system for energy storage and load optimization
- Power conversion and system control (hybrid inverter / energy management system)
- Core components within the defined system boundary (up to 5 kVA)
Economic Characteristics
Economic performance depends on site conditions, load profile and system configuration, with strongest benefits in high-cost energy environments, diesel replacement scenarios and applications requiring reliable energy supply.
Example Economic Scenarios
| Scenario | Annual Energy Use | Value / Savings | Economic Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baseline (Household only) | ~6,500 kWh/year | ~1,000 – 1,200 € / year | Limited economic return |
| + Electric Vehicle Charging | Increased self-consumption | ~1,500 – 3,000 € / year additional value | Strong improvement due to high-value energy substitution |
| + Heat Pump / HVAC | Higher local energy utilization | Additional system-dependent savings | Further optimization of energy self-consumption |
Key Insight: Economic performance increases significantly when electrical mobility and thermal applications are integrated, as they increase self-consumption and replace higher-cost external energy sources.
Not included in the base system
- Building internal electrical distribution outside the microgrid system
- Heat pumps, heating or HVAC systems
- Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Consumer or building technology integration
Optional extensions (project-specific)
- Integration of EV charging stations with intelligent load management
- Connection of heat pump or HVAC systems
- Grid-connected system configuration including feed-in management
These extensions are not part of the base system and require separate technical design and project planning. The system is based on pre-configured configuration and standardized technical parameters. Dimensioning based on customer-provided information is optional.
Once technical planning begins, the system becomes customer-specific. Cancellation after planning start is excluded.
